Joyless Euroweenies hate Halloween
Posted by Andrew Bissell on 10/26, 8:56pm
In some ways, Halloween--a day of costumes, revelry, and guilt-free confectionary indulgence--allows us to celebrate the fact that we live in a country rich and prosperous enough to enjoy such a day of carefree frivolity. In that sense, it is a holiday infused with elements of the American sense of life: pride in one's achievements, delight in "crass consumerist" (read: earthly) pleasures, and even religious diversity and tolerance. No wonder so many bureaucrats, socialists, and Christians across the pond are trying to get their fellow Europeans to boycott it.

I doubt any of them read SOLO, but here are some suggestions to European central planners for "alternative" holidays that they might force on their pliant populaces:

-All Beggars' Day
-"Dress as an Evil American Politican or Businessman" Day
-UNICEF Euro-cent Collection Night
-"Peace Begins When the Hungry Have Fun-Size Snickers" Eve

Cheers to another "bad American habit!"
