| Rat Outsmarts Scientists Posted by Michael E. Marotta on 10/21, 4:49pm | ||
| A host of lessons can be read into this. Perhaps we should have a contest to see who can draw the most inferences. I thought of writing a parody press release in which Greenpeace called for a world conference to stop unregulated animal migrations. Then, I realized that plants are just as evil as animals. Personally, I used to think that it is pretty cool at that all those little Pacific islands have coconut trees, but, perhaps they are just invasive species. I know for sure that here in Michigan, 1000 kilometers from the sea, hardly a parking lot lacks seagulls, which are little more than rats with feathers. Then, there is the contrast of techno-savvy animal biologists being outfoxed -- well, out-ratted, really -- by a wild animal without a government-approved schooling. Maybe the problem is that these biologists lack a conceptual model for animal intelligence. Maybe they just lack concepts in their own heads. We could figure out what this effort actually cost and offer that much cash as a bounty per animal hide. We could make the hunting of rats illegal -- and then ignore the poachers. OK, your turn... | ||
