Bless you, Derek. I adore Carreras' voice, and it has hurt me to see him "dismissed." I can't wait to hear the reissued album. To me, Carreras is the Chopin of tenors.

I was listening to a Domingo Zarzuela album yesterday, which is also beautiful. He sings with Maria Bayo. I had never heard of her, but she is magnificent. The album is Zarzuelas, and is called Romanzas.
I had not heard of this Carreras Zarzuela album, but I think Zarzuelas would be perfect for his voice. I saw Carreras' first performance at the New York City Opera in the early 70's in Butterfly. Although I don't think he is the vocal equal of Domingo or Pavarotti, I do agree that at his best he was poetic and convincing. His Boheme with Stratas that is available on DVD is probably his best. I have a Chenier with Eva Marton which is also compelling.Since his major illness in the 80's, I have found his singing a little painful.

Thanks for this recommendation. I picked it up today in El Corte Ingl�s and it is, in one word, "thrilling". I haven't heard much of Carreras yet, but singing these zarzuela in his mother tongue, he really seems in his element and the interpretations are just wonderful. I carry so much of Spain in my heart, which just gives an extra special flavour to this collection for me.
