Machan's Musings - A Backlash Against Pets? by Tibor R. Machan

In order to reduce the likelihood they will come to my home to flex their muscles, I will try not to get a pet. More likely, I will break down because I’d like to have one. But I do not want some eager-beaver officer, installed by the likes of PETA to "protect" pets, to come and lord it over me and my home. (Read more...)

...pets get to be almost one’s friend, and friends cannot simply be replaced.

I lost my beloved cat Tiger Lilly when she succumbed to illness four years ago. Three weeks later I adopted Indy. She didn't replace Tiger but was a new friend who helped fill the void left by my loss. Tibor, don't succumb to the political bullying of PETA and their ilk. Adopt a new friend. You deserve it.

I can relate. Why, just the other day, the animal police came for my Isaac.

That sure looked at a domestic issue from a different angle. But don't deny yourself a pet. You are the loser.

Get a BIG DOG and teach it to attack the people from PETA (and other government intruders).

It will still fetch your slippers and be delighted to see you when you come home.

In Bermuda we have an agency called Vector Control. Civil servants who are allowed to snoop around your property to check that you aren’t leaving any standing water around for mosquitoes to breed in; something virtually the entire population is capable of doing for themselves. Fortunately ‘Civil Servant’ is a Stafford shire Terrier's favorite flavor.

Tibor, don't deny yourself the pleasure of having a cat to befriend just because the meddlesome pusbags at PETA are, well, meddlesome pusbags. Get yourself a Maine Coon cat and teach him to pounce on meddlesome people. :)
