SIU is so much like USCB except there's no sand or palm trees. I actually prefer college, but that could be due to the fact that I have gotten so much more booty after leaving high school... ah memories.

Ah, your superb writing not only brought me closer to this generation, but it brought me down memory lane as well.

First of all, I now understand why you look at my cocker spaniel they way you do, so watch it!

I, too, went to a party college (Nasson College, Springvale, Maine), but UCSB is a piker in comparison. We partied ourselves right out of existence. God, it was great. After the class of '68, it whimpered along, but finally closed its liquor-stained doors in the late '70's. The rate of brain cell death in Maine was reduced by over 30% I hear.,,

And remind me to tell you about our local bum, Scumbag, sometime. But that was just after college, and you have some more living to do before hearing about him.

P.S. I forgot to mention that at Nasson College we invented marijuana.

I enjoyed this very much.

Extremelly well-written, incisively funny, humorously sarcastic, with an adult level of skill and polish. Are you sure you're only fifteen?

Thanks for the nice comments, all. (Although, Phil, I'm actually twenty and a few months.)

Erik, I highly doubt that GGW hasn't come here at some point in recent years, but while I've been here (this is my second year; the piece was actually written in the summer, reflecting on my first year) it's be Collegefuckfest.com and another porn site, which I forget.

James,

I'm glad your aethetics were compatible with what I consider some of the best writing I've seen, at least from people who are still alive.  All your recommendations have been wonderful.  Alec is a rock star.  When I read his writing and Peter C's, I despair of ever getting to the outside all that is in.

But we aren't allowed to do that, are we.

Julia

I once returned to Sayville High School several months after I graduated in 1996, because a teacher I respected had a student similar to me: reasonably intelligent, alienated, abused by other students, and a longhaired metalhead with a violin. The only thing I felt when I stepped back into that place was the yearning for the feel of a weapon in my left hand. All the old rage came back, and when I met the kid my teacher wanted me to talk to, I said to him, "I cannot help you. You are going to suffer, you are going to be abused, and you are going to be lonely. Don't make the mistake I made, and try to stick it out: get your GED and drop out as soon as you can."

And then I walked out. It's been almost ten years, and I still want to rain napalm on the town in which I grew up.
