Poetry

Frontier
by Marty Lewinter

I know not how it came to be
That man first dared to sail the sea
And ride the wind and chart the skies
Far from the shore where the seagull cries.

Why did the sailor of yore risk it all —
The void at the edge — the terrible fall!
What voice kept him going when the journey'd begun
As the land slipped away and night swallowed the sun?

Land-dwelling creature, man craves solid ground.
Yet he challenged the ocean where dangers abound.
For its call is compelling, the pull of the tide,
So the battle ensued and the sea was defied.

Give thanks modern voyager, who travels with ease,
To those spirited soldiers who conquered the seas.
Take courage from them when you face your frontier —
There'll be no turning back, no surrender to fear!
